Purna Gyan Mudra

This is one of the advanced version of Gyan Mudra and is said to be the provider of wisdom. It is said that Lord Gautam Buddha was in this mudra when he received enlightenmentand also, in ancient indian religious texts , it is said that Lord Shri Krishna was in this mudra when he gave the delivered the knowledge of Gita to Arjuna.I think these examples are good enough to enlighten you to to importance and significance of this mudra.

How to form Purna Gyam Mudra:- Sit in Padmasana or Siddhasana which ever is comfortable to you. Now bring your hands in Gyan Mudra and keep one hand near knee and right hand near chest region and sit as long as you meditate or as long as possible.

Benefits:- It introduces the sense of spiritual stamina and dispassion,improves memory to a great extent,bestows intelligence and wisdom,causes electrical changes in the electromagnetic activity of the brain leading to increased clarity and understanding.It also soothes irritable tempraments.

Precautions:- This mudra should not be performed if you are in high-strung. In fact, meditation is not recommended in such states. Instead, do some pranayams and then meditate in purna gyan mudra.



Gyan Mudra

As the name suggests, this mudra is the mudra of knowledge and wisdom. In many of the pics that we see of yogi's doing meditation as this mudra develops one's thinking power and expands his horizon of thinking.

How to form Gyan Mudra:-

Bend the index finger and touch the tip of thumb with the tip of your index finger as shown in the figure above.Hold it together for atleast 15-30 minutes while practicing meditation in Padmasana, Sukhasana or Siddhasana.

Benefits:- Its practice ensures mental peace, concentration, sharp memory and spiritual feelings. This mudra is good for: stresses and strains, insomnia, emotional instability, indecisiveness, excessive anger, idleness, laziness, indolence, and is a great help in increasing memory and I.Q. It can help cure sleeplessness and get one off sleeping pills where these are being taken.



Kuber Mudra

Kuber Mudra is named after the Hindu God of wealth and riches and rightly so cause this mudra is said to be bestowed with the blessing of Kuber himself and is his own Mudra.


How to form Kuber Mudra:-

1. The tips of thumb, index and middle finger should be brought together and press them against each other.

2. The other two fingers should be bent and they should rest in the middle of palm. Do it with both of your hands.

Benefits:- As said earlier, this mudra helps people achieve what they set as goal for themselves and not only money, though money is what most of the people want. While doing this mudra, focus with your full intensity on what you want and think of as if you have already got it. This Mudra helps channel your energy and motivation towards what you want. And in this Mudra, it is of less importance that for what time you do but what is important is with how much intensity you do it.

The best thing would be to practice this every morning for 15 minutes and focus on what you want of the day and i am sure, you will find it very very helpful.



Panchtatva's Mudra

In this , we will see how to perform various mudra's with detail and how can they help us.So, let us start with first the five mudra's of the five elements of our body and also of the universe!!!

1. Vayu Mudra:-

Vayu means wind and this Mudra is specifically aimed at eliminating flatulence. It is believed to be working immediately. But after the problem is overcome, the Mudra should be discontinued. If the condition is chronic, the Mudra should be done thrice daily for fifteen minutes.

How to form Vayu Mudra:-Press the index finger on the base of thumb and keep the thumb on the index finger. Let the other fingers be straight

Benefits:-. Helps in diseases like Parkinson's disease,Rheumatism
Sciatica,Stiff Neck,Knee Pain,Gout,Joint Pain in hands and feet,Paralysis,Hysteria.For better results, it should be done after Pran Mudra.

2. Akash Mudra:-


As the name suggests, the mudra is named after sky(akash) and is thus called Akas Mudra.This Mudra helps to center the energy i.e., it provides energy to any part of body that islacking.

How to form the Akash mudra:- Thumb and middle finger are joined. Index, ring, and pinky fingers are extended.It should be done for 15 minutes.

Benefits:- It strengthens the bones and is also good for tootaches.It cures problems of nasal and oral cavities and also removes frustation.

3. Prithvi Mudra

This Mudra activates the root chakra, which houses our vital energy or elemental force. A good vital energy optimizes the physical potential in a person who is then in a position to actualize both his physical and metaphysical goals. It is essential for a life of fulfillment to ward off energy deficits and the Prithvi Mudra is an ideal tool.

How to form Prithvi Mudra:- Join the tip of ring finger and thumb while keeping other three relaxed and extended.

Benefits:- It normalizes the body equilibrium,helps improve physical weakness and increases tolerance and patience.

4. Agni Mudra:-

This mudra is based on the power of fire and should be performed empty stomach and this must be disocntinued in the case of acidity,indigestion and heart burn.

How to form Agni Mudra:-
Fold the ring finger at the base of thumb and press it with the thumb at the second phalange. Keep the rest of the three fingers straight and perform it in sitting position only. It should be performed 2-3 times a day for 15 minutes to observe the results. It should be practiced in the sitting position only.

Benefits:- It helps dissolving the extra fat of body by controlling the metabolic rate,burns the excess Phlegms and compensates for sluggish digestion. It is also good for maintaining the cholesterol level in body. Also, it produces heat in body, so is good to be practiced in winter.

5. Varun Mudra

Varun means "water" and hence as the name suggests this mudra helps regulate the fluid level in the body and thus on practice it cures the disorders related to these. Thus, This Mudra is very good to get rid of the excess mucous that collects in the stomach or lung.

How to form Varun Mudra:-
joining the little finger tip with the tip of the thumb, keeping the rest of the three fingers straight. This can be performed sitting or standing or lying down, however the best is sitting cross legged. However, make sure you do not not press the tip of the little finger near the nail as it causes dehydration rather than moisturizing the system.

Benefits:-
It maintains the fluid in the body and related disorders. This , thus, is helpful in Kidney malfunction and promotes urination.It is also good for skin disorders, wrinkles, skin infections, skin dryness and thus brings lots of lustier and glows to the body and especially face. It purifies the blood and takes care of many blood disorders.

Mudra's are said to be very powerful and yet very simple as they can be practised anytime unlike various asanas and Pranayams, which ought to be practiced in the morning.

Human body is said to be made up of five elements:-
1. Earth
2. Water
3. Fire
4. Air
5. Sky

It is said that if the balance between these five elements is disturbed, the body develops various ailments and diseases. So, to maintain good health the balance between these five elements must be maintained and conversely, the diseases and ailments can be cured if the balance between these elements is restored. Some of the common mudra's are listed below and they have been named as per the purpose they serve.
